Unbeweavable Hair Extensions

How to Make and Install Clip In Hair Extensions

Clip in hair extensions are great if you don’t want to permanantly commit to extensions or if you are still getting a feel for the look.  They are perfect for everyone!

Heres how to make perfect clip in extensions.

  • Section off the hair and measure the length of the weft that you need to fit the gap that you have just made in your hair.
  • Cut the weft to fit the gap.
  • Get the first clip and place it onto the right hand side of the weft.
  • Thread your needle through the little hole and through the weft behind it, come over the top and then back through the hole – repeat until secure.
  • Do the same on the other side of the clip– if you do the two top holes first then it makes the rest easier.
  • Depending how long the weft is will depend how many clips you use – I would say you need one clip for every 4-6 inches of weft. So the first piece you make which will be quite short, as it goes at the bottom or the hair, would probably need 2 clips – one on the left hand side, and one on the right hand side.
  • The longest clip in extension which goes from ear to ear will probably need 3 or 4 clips depending on how big the weft is. The general aim is not have any part of the sagging as it will be visable – and the more clips your have, the more secure they will be once you put them in.

DOUBLE HAIR!

Most clips have four holes – 2 on each side – so if you want a fuller look, or if you have thin hair and can only get away with hiding 2 or 3 wefts then why not double the hair on each clip.

Once you have sewn the first clip on (just sewing the weft onto the clip through the top 2 holes). Cut another weft and sew it onto the weft using the hole below the first one.

APPLYING THE CLIP INS

Pop open all the clips on the weft

Section off a piece of hair the same width of the clip – twist the hair in your fingers, spray a little bit of hair spray onto the hair then slide the clip in from the top and snap it shut on the hair. The spray will keep it securely in place.

Continue to add the wefts in like this all up the head – taking care to conceal them well before moving onto the next

TIPS

When measuring the extensions, leave a gap of 1 cm at either side of the hair line so that the extensions are hidden better

Using hair spray on your own hair before adding the clips makes them more secure.

If you are planning on curling your hair – curl the extensions and your own hair separately, then once finished, apply the extensions as usual – this means you arnt pulling the clip ins with curling irons so they wont slip down.

If you are doubling up on hair and sewing 2 wefts onto each set of clips, then why not add a different colour for the underneath piece to give your hair a different look
