Unbeweavable Hair Extensions
These have many names, Dinkies, Micro rings, linkies, link rings – but they are all the same idea. Very small metal rings that are used to clamp together hair and extension. They are mainly used with stick tip/I tip hair extensions and are long lasting and easy to remove making them perfect for first time users of individual hair extensions.. Many people wonder how many individual extensions they will need, and depending on thickness of hair, and the final look you want to achieve, you will need between 150 – 200 extensions. Very thick hair would need 250 – 300 which is approx 100g of hair.
With correct care micro ring extensions can also last for months, some people can make them last a year with correct care, as they tend to grow out with your natural hair if you apply them properly. After about 2-3 months it is a good idea to remove them, as after this time the hair will have grown approximately 1 inch, so to avoid tangling at the tip remove them and re install them. The good news is that they use pre tipped individual extensions, so after re-tipping they can be reused. Check out our “recycle your extensions” !
Better for course hair as they grip better, if your hair gets very greasy they may slide down faster.
If your hair is very thin then you may find It hard to hide these extensions so should try shrinkies instead as they are clear and easier to hide.
Section off the hair leaving a 1 inch gap from the nape of the neck.
Start at one side and work methodically across the row leaving a gap between each extension.
Put a micro ring onto the hook tool
Hook a piece of hair the same size as the hair extension and pull the hair through the micro ring – sliding the ring up the piece of hair to about 1cm from the scalp
Push the stick tip/I tip hair extension through the micro ring and clamp shut with extension pliers. It should be quite a snug fit to avoid them slipping out.
Your first extension is now in place – carry on all along the row then section off another row above it, with this one start the first extension in the gap – so you apply the extensions in a “brick work” style – this makes it look move natural.
You will need to have between 150 – 250 extensions in depending on the thickness of your hair and the size of your head
If you want thicker looking hair then apply more extensions – its simple really!
The most extensions you can get in would be about 300 if you have very thick hair or a big head like me!
Again hiding these is crucial so make sure you leave a good amount of hair on top to cover them up
If you are adding extensions into short layered hair then it’s a good idea to pop to the salon and get them blend them in for you – this is a lot easier to do with individual extensions than wefts
